Datamosh

This video explores how the medium can be used to visually create a palimpsest. In order to achieve this I went through the process of datamoshing. Datamoshing is a very specific form of video editing which involves deconstructing the code of the file and distorting the way that the computer reads it. Video files have three frame distinctions that allow programs to understand them, I frame, P frames and B frames. Datamoshing is the process of deleting I frames which are used to distinguish transitions or cuts between edited video files. By deleting these I frames the program converges the two layers to have the incoming visuals physically breakthrough the final frame of the previous sequence.
