With this project I wanted to approach the concept of palimpsest through material exploration. Taking strips of cardboard that I would sometimes write or draw on, and applying a layer of gesso on top. In some of these experiments I used a pallet knife to scrape away the medium to reveal the corrugation of the cardboards surface. Once the acrylic was dry I went back into the surface, meticulously shading and rendering shadows to highlight groves created by the medium.
